1 cup boiling water
1 tbsp. bicarbonate of soda
1 cup dates
11/2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup chopped nuts
2 tbsp. melted margarine
Cooking Directions
Add the bicarbonate of soda to boiling water. Place the dates in a bowl and pour the boiling water over them. cool. Remove the dates and chop them. Retain te liquid. Sift the flour. stir in thesugar and nuts, ten themelted margarine, dates and the liquid thatthey were soaked in. Bake in a 9 inch x 4 inch loaf tin or an 8 inch square tin at 350° F on the centre shelf for 30 - 45 minutes.
